Far North Queensland, Australia
Are you looking to experience the best of what Tropical North Queensland has to offer for individuals, families & groups? Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers have a fantastic eco-expedition suitable for families and groups of 4-10 participants aimed at providing an all-round environmental education tour of the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree, Cape Tribulation and Atherton Tablelands. This eco-tour has it all!
Day 0 – Sunday – Check into your hotel or accommodation.
Day 1 – Monday – Our O2E conservation guide and tour hosts will pick you up and head off to the Daintree ancient rainforest and Cape Tribulation for a scenic coastal drive, crocodile spotting river cruise, a walk through the National Park, a traditional ‘Billy Tea’ with damper , swim, beach walking, 4 wheel driving and some exotic fruit ice cream. Learn all about the rainforest that is composed of thousand-year-old tree’s, let the chorus of all birds and insects around you fill your ears and enjoy the spectacular views where the rainforest meets the reef!
Day 2 – Tuesday – Meet our volunteer research team at the Reef Terminal and embark on a journey to a picturesque tropical island. Spend your morning with our expert marine conservation team and volunteers, gaining valuable insights into the Great Barrier Reef environment and the challenges it faces. Engage in citizen science by conducting a snorkelling survey that will help assess and report on the Reef’s health.
Following lunch, our First Nations cultural representative shares Dreamtime stories and provide a unique insight into local Indigenous culture.
Day 3 – Wednesday – Participants board a 35 metre catamaran and explore more of the iconic Great Barrier Reef to snorkel, explore in a semi-submersible and learn from a Marine Biologist about the wonders of the reef and the many marine species that call the reef home. This intricate system is the largest living reef in the world so there is lots to see and do. Just jump into the deep…literally…sit back with a BBQ lunch and cheese and wine platter and take in the sights.
Day 4 – Thursday – Back to the water where you will embark on a ferry to a tropical island and meet up with the O2E volunteers to help out with the reef research, spot wild turtles while you enjoy a snorkel and take a self-guided eco-walk over to Nudey’s Beach (voted best beach 2017!) or up to the Summit if you dare!
Day 5 – Friday – Last stop on the adventure trail is a day in the authentic Aussie Outback. Experience the culture that has survived this sandy land for centuries and learn about the iconic wildlife that lives here as you wildlife spot, enjoy a guided cave tour, visit the Chilliagoe Smelter Ruins, the geological wonder of the ‘Balancing Rock,’ visit an ancient Aboriginal rock art site and freshen off with a tropical fruit tasting.
Conservation, outback touring, iconic rainforest…We’ve got it all covered!
