The Tasmanian Wildlife & Penguin Care project offers passionate volunteers a conservation opportunity of a lifetime in 2020.
Based in the popular East Coast holiday destination of Bicheno, this rich environment provides the perfect backdrop for participants to be part of an international volunteering program that enriches the lives of animals, marine life and birds native to the region. The objective of the shelter is to rescue, rehabilitate and release native animals back into their natural habitat.
Why Tasmania?
Tasmania is home to a variety of special species native to Australia. From wombats and penguins to wallabies, echidnas, sugar gliders, pademelons, whales, dolphins, seals and the infamous Tasmanian devil, these creatures are reflective of a thriving ecosystem where land and sea come together.
However, like many regions in Australia and across the globe, there are challenges that exist for these species. The Tasmanian devil continues to struggle with the spread of the Devil Facial Tumour Disease while other animals are left sick, injured, displaced and in need of urgent medical care.
Unique initiatives like the Tasmanian Wildlife & Penguin Care project has the expertise and resources to restore their health and well being, but volunteers provide the lifeblood that keep these operations viable.
How Volunteers Help The Conservation Cause in Tasmania
It is the actions that are taken on the ground where tangible gains are made in the fight for Australian conservation. Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers offers animal and conservation-focused volunteering programs to anyone who wishes to travel and contribute.
Volunteers engage in a range of wildlife conservation activities including bottle-feeding baby animals, exercising animals, capturing injured wildlife, collecting and cutting food, cleaning enclosures, re-establishing animal environments, assisting with medical examinations, tree planting and more.
The volunteer funds that are sourced from these placements directly fund animal care and related activities including medical supplies and facility maintenance, none of which would be possible without the support of committed volunteers.
Enjoying the Sights & Sounds of the Tasmanian Environment
There are few better excuses to enjoy a holiday down in Tasmania than signing up for an Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers placement opportunity, allowing men and women of all backgrounds to experience this splendid landscape in all its glory.
Soaking in the stunning views from Mount Wellington, the township of Bicheno opens up a series of different adventure avenues, satisfying the young high-octane thrill seekers to the more tranquil of Australian delights. This makes for an enticing prospect for young travellers or just those young at heart.
When taking a break from the wildlife conservation efforts before or after the placement, participants can engage in swimming, snorkelling and surfing activities to consuming all that the local cafés and restaurants have to offer.
Why not hire a car and hang around the region for a while? The benefit of traveling to this glorious corner of the globe is that each special sightseeing location is never more than a couple of hours drive away, giving volunteers the chance to drop by Hobart, Launceston and other iconic regions.
The seasonal changes from the chill of winter to the heat of summer also present different experiences for travellers, ensuring that they can gain a special insight into this remote destination.
