Species Difference

Get to know some Thai elephants through one of our volunteer programs.
Though they are all elephants in the eyes of the animal kingdom, African and Asian elephants are divided into different species. According to the World Wildlife Fund, African elephants are separated into savanna and forest elephants, while the Asian elephant is only a forest elephant.

Can you tell which type of elephant this one is based on its ears?
Threat Differences
Unfortunately, both types of elephants face many problems in the wild. For African elephants, the biggest concern is wildlife crime, such as poaching, while the Asian elephants worry is habitat loss and conflict with humans, according to the WWF. At Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers, we have programs to help the Asian Elephants in Thailand as well as Malawi.
How do the Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers programs help Asian Elephants in Thailand
Many elephants in Thailand are abused and used for logging and working in the streets. These programs help the displaced animals have a place of solace so volunteers can help rehabilitate them. Head over to our Destinations tab on our website and click on Thailand to find out which elephant program might be right for you to join.
